ACTIVITIES OF SALAR JUNG MUSEUM FOR - FEBRUARY 2008

I. WORKSHOP

International Council of Museum Workshop on Traditional Knowledge Systems of Museums and Intangible Natural Heritage Preservation of Cultural Monuments was held in the Salar Jung Museum from 3rd to 7th February, 2008. Prof. Amreshwar Galla, ICOM Cross Cultural Task Force, Chairman, inaugurated the 5 day workshop on 3rd February, 2008. Dr. Kapila Vatsayana, M.P. Rajyasabha delivered key note address. During the workshop, eminent scholars on Museology delivered lectures on “INTANGIBLE HERITAGE OF NIZAMIA TIBBI COLLEGE” Kasturba Natural Cure Hospital, Hyderabad on 3rd to 4th February, 2008.

The ICOM delegates also visited Visakhapatnam to view intangible Heritage and delivered the lectures.

42 delegates from 8 Asian & Pacific Countries attended. As a part of assistance for the development of local and small museums the staff of the museum visited S.V. Museum, Tirumala, Tirupathi, Centre for Urdu Languages Literature and Culture of Maulana Azad National Urdu University, Hyderabad and Historic Medico Museums of Indian History of Museum.



II. Exhibitions

The Alliance Francaise of Hyderabad and Salar Jung Museum jointly organized a special painting exhibition on Portraits 2007: from Maharajas to Glitteratis by French Artist Marian Colomer was arranged. This exhibition was inaugurated on 13th February,2008 and remained open for public for a period of 15 days. ii) Exhibition on Rauzajat-e-Ahlebait Ather : - A special exhibition on shrines of immaculate family of Holy Prophet was arranged at Nawab Mir Laiq Ali Khan Bhavan of Salar Jung Museum. 35 art objects alongwith 80 photographs relating to Ahlelait-e-Ahtar shrives of Immaculate family of Holy prophet were displayed. This exhibition was inaugurated by Nawab Mir Moazam Hussain, Former Director, UNESCO for a period 8 days from 29th February to March 2008. As per the tradition daily Majli-e-Aza and Matam has arranged and Tabrukat distributed large number of community participation was in the Museum.


III. Special Lecture

A Two day National Seminar on the “Socio Cultural Religious, Architectural and Archaeological aspects of city of Khuldabad” was organized during 22nd and 23rd February, 2008 at Salar Jung Museum. Dr. Smt. Haripriya Rangarajan inaugurated the seminar. Prof. Suleman Siddiqi, Former Vice-Chancellor, Osmania University delivered key note address. 16 scholars from Hyderabad, Nalgonda, Delhi, Aurangabad, Khuldabad attended the seminar.
