ACTIVITIES OF SALAR JUNG MUSEUM FOR - APRIL 2009

I. Educational Activities:

Temporary Exhibition

(i) On the occasion of Bhagwan Mahaveer Jayanthi, the Museum organized a special exhibition on “Bhagwan Mahaveer – A Peaceful Liberator” on 6th April, 2009. Smt. Rama Devi, Ex-Governor of Karnataka and Himachal Pradesh inaugurated the special exhibition.







(ii) On the eve of Birth Anniversary Celebration of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, the Salar Jung Museum organized a special photo exhibition on “Bharat Ratna Dr. B.R. Ambedkar” on 13th April 2009. Sri V. Elisha, Director, National Commission for SCs, Govt. of India (Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh & Chhattisgarh) inaugurated the exhibition. Nearly, 250 rare photographs on the life of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar were displayed in the exhibition.





(iii) On the occasion of World Heritage Day, the Salar Jung Museum organized a photo exhibition on “Portraits of Princes” on 18th April 2009. This exhibition was inaugurated by Sri. B. Narsing Rao, famous artist and film producer. The exhibition consists of 33 black and white photographs of Maharaja families of erstwhile India. Family photos of Maharajas like Kooch Bihar, Baroda, Bhopal, Indore, Kapurtala, Kolhapur, Mandi, Nawabgunj etc., taken in 19th and 20th centuries by James Loyafette of London have been displayed.





(iv) A special exhibition on “300 Years of Gurta Gaddi of Sri Guru Granth Sahibji” was organized during 26th April - 5th May, 2009 by the Salar Jung Museum in collaboration with Sikh Heritage Foundation Hyderabad Deccan. Prof. Manjeet Singh of Punjab University and Former Jathedar Sri Keshgarh Sahib inaugurated the special exhibition and Sardar Harpreet Singh, IAS, Chairman, Sikh Heritage Foundation was the Chief Guest. 140 photographs of Gurus and Gurudwars were displayed in the exhibition. A special Darbar was organized as part the Sikh tradition. During the week, the Museum organized Seminars, Dastar Divas, Essay Writing competition, Gurmat Sangeet, Kavi Sammelan, Sikh Martial Arts Demonstration, Gurbani Keetan.

II. Seminar

One day national seminar on “Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji – A Spiritual Guide” was organized by Salar Jung Museum on 26th April, 2009. Prof. Manjeet Singh, Ex-Jathedar Sri Keshgrah Sahib inaugurated the seminar.








III. Special Lecture

A special lecturer on “History of Astronomy to Cosmology –East West Orientation” with slides was arranged by the Historical Society of Hyderabad and Salar Jung Museum on 11th April 2009. Dr. Vidyarthi Nanduri delivered the Special lecture.
