ACTIVITIES OF SALAR JUNG MUSEUM FOR - JUNE 2009

I. Educational Activities:

Temporary Exhibition

(i) Salar Jung Museum and Karnataka Urdu Academy Bangalore jointly organized an inter-state exhibition on “Gulistan-e-Urdu” on 3rd June, 2009 at Chitra Kala Parishad, Bangalore. Prof. Mumtaz Ali, Minister for Waqf & Minority Welfare, Govt. of Karnataka inaugurated the exhibition.

(ii) A special exhibition on “The Filigree Works in Salar Jung Museum” was organized by the Salar Jung Museum from 14th June to 20th June, 2009. Total 22 gold and silver objects acquired by Salar Jung III were displayed in the exhibition.


(iii) A special exhibition on “Life and Times of Nawab Mir Yousuf Ali Khan: As Seen Through His Collections” was inaugurated by H.E. Sri Narayan Datt Tiwari, the Governor of Andhra Pradesh and Chairman, Salar Jung Museum Board on 14th June, 2009. This exhibition was organized on the occasion of 120th Birth Anniversary Celebrations of Salar Jung III.







II. Lecture

Salar Jung Museum and Historical Society of Hyderabad jointly organized a special lecture with power point presentation on “Islamic Art in India” on 13th June, 2009. Sri. Kandregula Nageshwar Rao delivered the special lecture.


Salar Jung Museum organized a memorial lecture on “Salar Jung Museum from its Inception” on 18th June, 2009. Two Museum Retired Officers i.e., Sri D. Bhasker Rao, (Ex-Keeper - Education) and Sri B. Kotaiah, Dy. Keeper (Retd.) delivered the memorial lecture.


III. Work Shops

Salar Jung Museum organized a memorial lecture on “Salar Jung Museum from its Inception” on 18th June, 2009. Two Museum Retired Officers i.e., Sri D. Bhasker Rao, (Ex-Keeper - Education) and Sri B. Kotaiah, Dy. Keeper (Retd.) delivered the memorial lecture.



III. Other Activities

Birth Anniversary of Nawab Mir Yousuf Ali Khan Bahadur-Salar Jung – III was celebrated in the Salar Jung Museum from 14th to 20th June, 2009. Sri Narayan Datt Tiwari, H.E. the Governor of Andhra Pradesh and Chairman, Salar Jung Museum Board inaugurated the Birth Anniversary celebrations.








H.E. the Governor of A.P. and Chairman, Salar Jung Museum Board distributed Best Worker awards to the Class-III and Class IV Staff for their better performance in their duties. The Educational Awards to the wards of the Museum Staff who achieved better performance in their academic pursuits were also given by H.E. during the inaugural function.







On this occasion, H.E. the Governor of A.P. and Chairman, Salar Jung Museum Board inaugurated two new galleries i.e., Wood Carving gallery and Furniture gallery in Eastern Block; installation of LCD TVs at Musical clock area; laid foundation stones for second floor (Eastern Block) and State Bank of India ATM centre in Museum premises.









During the week, the Museum organized special exhibitions, workshops, cultural programmes and memorial lectures. Special Dinner was arranged on 18th June, 2009 exclusively for staff, Guests and VIPs. The Museum was kept open for half-a-day for physically challenged children. Sports and games competitions were also conducted for the Museum and Security (CISF) staff and prizes were distributed to the winners.
