ACTIVITIES OF SALAR JUNG MUSEUM FOR - MARCH, 2008
I. Exhibitions
A photo exhibition on “Shrives of Ahebait-e-Athar” was organized in the Museum from 1st March. Nawab Mir Moazzam Hussain, former Director UNBCO inaugurated the exhibition. Calligraphic panels, museum objects like jade, copper, bidri, photos of Shrines etc., were also displayed in the exhibition. Daily Majlis-e-Aza, Marsiya Khawani and Nautia Khani arranged.
This exhibition remained open for public till 7th March, 2008.
(ii) Exhibition on Sacred Relics
An exhibition on Sacred Relics consisting of 43 photographs of Sacred Relics was arranged in collaboration with India League Foundation and Turkish based organization and Osmania University.
The exhibition consisted of Sacred Relics of Holy Prophet Hazrat Mohammed (PBUH) like his mantle, water container, foot prints, sandals etc. Sri Shabbir Ali, Hon’ble Minister Government of Andhra Pradesh inaugurated the exhibition on 20th March, 2008. Prof. Suleman Siddiqi, Former Vice-Chancellor, Osmania University, Hyderabad attended the inaugural function as a chief guest. Dr. A.K.V.S. Reddy, Director, Salar Jung Museum presided over the function.
During the month 6 lecturers were delivered in the one week workshop on Manuscriptology and Conservation conducted by Hyderabad Central University.
The subjects covered are (i) Preventive conservation of manuscripts (ii) curative conservation of manuscripts (iii) Internation of hight with manuscripts (iv) problems and remedies in editing Arabic and Persian manuscripts (v) deterioration of insects to manuscripts (vi) factors of deterioration of manuscripts.
Museum Association of India and Salar Jung Museum organized the Annual Conference of M.A.I., (Museum Association of India) From 1st to 3rd March 2008. Sri Anam Rama Narayan Reddy, Hon’ble Minister for Tourism and Culture, Government of Andhra Pradesh inaugurated the Annual Conference. 120 delegates from various museums participated in the conference.
A three day national seminar was held on 3rd March, 2008. Cultural programmes, Quawali by Assad Ahmed Khan Warsi was also arranged. On this occasion local visit to Monuments Qutubshahi Tombs and Golkonda Fort was arranged for the delegates.
International Women’s Day
International Women’s Day was celebrated in the Salar Jung Museum. Smt. Y. Laxmi Kumari, Principal, Sarojini Naidu Vanitha Mahavidyalaya presided over the women’s day celebration and delivered key note addressed. Dr. A. Nagender Reddy, Joint Director, Salar Jung Museum presided over the celebrations. The women staff members delivered lectures on the role of women in building ideal society.
On this occasion, a special exhibition “Sthree” the paintings of Laxmi Vaneswari, was arranged by the Museum. 105 paintings were displayed. This exhibition received appreciation from visitors.
Special Lecture : A lecture on “Sufi Saints of Deccan” was arranged by the Hyderabad Salar Jung Museum. Dr. Scott Kingle Hawali, USA delivered the special lecture on 8th March, 2008.
