Mir Laiq Ali Khan was born in 1280 H/1863 A.D. In 1880, he was sent to Europe on an educational tour which lasted for two years. He wrote about his European tour in Persian, under the title “The Travels in Europe.” He was appointed as Secretary to the Council of Regency and later on as a member of the Council of State.

When the Nizam, Mir Mehboob Ali Khan assumed charge of his dominion and was vested with full ruling powers he appointed Mir Laiq Ali Khan, Salar Jung, as Prime Minister (1884 A.D.) After sometime he incurred the displeasure of his master and was removed from the post in 1887 A.D. During his regime as Prime Minister, he tried to enforce those administrative reforms which were left unimplemented by his father. His greatest achievement was the introduction of Urdu as the Official language of the Nizam’s dominion. Till then the language of administration was Persian.

He re-visited Europe, in 1887 and was honoured with the title of K.C.I.E. He died in 1306 H./1889 A.D. at the age of 26 years leaving behind an infant of 24 days, Abul Qasim Mir Yousuf Ali Khan.
